Tips for Nurses - Transition from a government to a private hospital

Here are a few tips for you to consider:

  1. Always try to do some Agency Shifts and start working in a Private Hospital before throwing yourself into the “Lion’s Den”
  2. Try to work Agency Overtime Shifts at, at least 1 – 2 Private Hospitals within your immediate geographical area for at least 6 – 12 months.
  3. Speak to as many friends and / or colleagues that you have working in a Private Hospital and ask them about their experiences.
  4. Many Government Hospitals are Training Facilities and therefore errors are more accepted; Working in a Private Hospital means that you are dealing with patients who pay huge amounts of money to be in Hospital and hence the pressure is on and the expectations are high, therefore you need to be mindful of the fact that there will be little room for error.
